Things to do with your Box Room ..Part 1: A Dressing Room
03/Sep/2015

Getting started… A windowless room is best but if you have windows cover them up. It sounds all dreamy and wonderful to have natural light gushing through but unless you want sun-faded clothing you’ll cover those bad boys up. Blinds or curtains will do the trick or you could place something in front of the window to block the light…say a bookcase…which is also the perfect new space for your shoes or handbags… or both! Of course you can go pro and have experts do all the work for you but generally there are a lot of things that can easily be done by you.

Clothes racks are fairly inexpensive and are an easy way to provide hanging space… Floating shelves or box shelves are also a great and inexpensive, they can be used to display shoes, bags or have baskets on filled with t-shirts or more everyday essential items that don’t warrant hanging.

Useful storage:  A wine rack is a great place to store scarves.. just roll each one up and pop into the hole.

Lighting: The lighting you choose should be flexible enough to provide focus and atmosphere to your dressing room. Hanging fixtures, such as chandeliers, instantly make a space feel special and luxurious, while task lighting around a vanity mirror will offer direct light for grooming and makeup application.

Seating:  A chair or ottoman in your dressing room is useful for getting dressed, putting on shoes or placing any other items you need to take with you. This is an occasional chair and while comfort is still important, you can let design lead your decision here.

Dressing Table: Depending on the size of your dressing room you may want to incorporate a dressing table and vanity mirror so you can get ready for the day all in one place. Be sure to include enough space to store your lotions and potions close to hand.

Bringing it all together: Sounds Captain Obvious but a full length mirror is a must.. Get a large, beautiful mirror – one that makes a statement in the room. After you get the technical part out of the way you can decorate! Rugs, decorative boxes, a cosy chair, mannequins, art … the possibilities are endless when it comes to decorating your dressing room.
