‘Picket Post’ was part of a parcel of land and properties sold in 1796 by the Claughton Estate to ‘The Company of Proprietors’ of the Lancaster canal. The original property would have been a way station for boatmen and their horses delivering coal, and farm produce to the hinterlands of Preston and Lancaster. This would have continued well into the 1960’s. Subsequently the property was converted and extended to create the home it is today.

Attached to the house, at the left elevation, is a stone built garden store with a pitched grey slate roof. Accessed through a wooden door, with window to side, and housing the central heating boiler. A recently replaced oil tank is situated on a stone plinth to the side.

GENERAL
The property has oil-fired central heating, and is single glazed throughout. We are informed by the vendor that the property has never flooded, in part due to the lie of the land and natural run-off areas.
